Waikato University campus pathway

Many of New Zealand's university campuses were built or extended in the 1960s and 1970s when it was fashionable to have large garden-like areas between buildings, with winding paths joining them. These were often poorly lit, and many female students did not feel safe walking these paths at night. Lighting improved from the 1980s, when security patrols were also introduced on many campuses.
