Kōrero: Families: a history

Marion Bamford and her twins, Tim and William, enjoy reading a picture book in their home in 1991. In the late 20th century, parents tended to be older at the birth of their first child. Bamford, like many others, waited until her early 30s before she had children. Until that time her job and her outdoor interests absorbed much of her time. Once her twins were born, she cut back on paid work and other interests to have time for parenting. She and her husband Dave always knew that they wanted to have children, it was just a matter of timing.
