St Patrick's Union Church, South Canterbury

St Patrick's Union Church, South Canterbury

St Patrick's at Burkes Pass, South Canterbury is the oldest surviving union church in New Zealand. It was built in 1871–72 by the combined efforts of the local Anglican, Presbyterian and Catholic communities. This small weatherboard building, protected from gales by pines and buttresses, remains in regular use.
