Social services: Wahine shipwreck, 1968

A Salvation Army officer (right) and a policeman help an elderly survivor of the April 1968 shipwreck of the inter-island ferry Wahine. By working with poor and needy people for many years, the Salvation Army built up considerable experience in disaster relief and was called upon to help on occasions such as this and the 1931 Napier earthquake.
