Kōrero: Voluntary welfare organisations

The Maori Women's Welfare League, established in 1951, brought together Māori women volunteers from around New Zealand to tackle problems arising from the large-scale movement of Māori to towns and cities after the Second World War. These included poor housing, discrimination, health issues and educational challenges. The league remained an important force in Māoridom in the 21st century.
