Tākaka dairy factory, 2010

On 21 June 2005 fire destroyed the Tākaka dairy factory. Most of the plant was quickly rebuilt but the butter and casein processing capabilities were not, and in 2010 the plant produced only milk powder. The milk tankers that serve it are a familiar sight on Golden Bay’s roads.
