First woman Anglican bishop

New Zealand's Anglican Church first allowed the ordination of women in 1977, and consecrated its first female bishop in 1990. Penny Jamieson, shown here during the ceremony, was the first woman Anglican diocesan bishop in the world. A diocesan bishop is one with responsibility for a geographic area.
