In May 2010 the Waitangi Tribunal began hearing the Ngāpuhi Treaty of Waitangi claim on the site where the treaty itself was first signed 170 years earlier. Here the panel of tribunal members, made up of Māori and Pākehā, face a table on which artefacts and symbols represent the tribes who have brought the claim to the tribunal.
