Alchoholics Anonymous (AA) is a worldwide network which supports people who have problems with alcohol. The New Zealand organisation was established in 1946. A musician plays for residents at a drug rehabilitation centre in Plimmerton, north of Wellington, in 1988. Behind her is a poster describing the 'Twelve Steps', a recovery programme written by early members of AA in the US and still used in the 2000s.
