In 1990 Penny Jamieson was consecrated as Bishop of Dunedin, becoming the first woman in the world to head an Anglican diocese. Here she wears robes and a mitre, or bishop's headdress, specially made for this occasion by New Zealand women. Jamieson is also holding a wooden crozier, or symbolic staff, designed and gifted by her former diocese of Wellington.
