Holiday job

Holiday job

Teenager Katherine Irvine, pictured in February 1987, worked in Wellington during the school holidays serving ice creams and milkshakes. The long summer holiday can leave teenagers bored and broke. Many start paid employment in their early teens – often part-time work such as a paper run, or full-time work during school holidays. Paid employment is another way of demarcating children from adolescents.
