Kōrero: Victims of crime

In 2001 the Sensible Sentencing Trust was formed to lobby for longer sentences for violent crime, attracting support from many relatives of murder victims. In 2008 the Trust organised a protest by families and friends of victims outside Mt Eden prison in Auckland, which is just across the road from the Probation Service offices. Their banners made the point that unlike offenders, who can be paroled, many victims receive a 'life sentence' for which there is no remission.
