Bishop Frederick Bennett

The first Anglican Māori bishop, Frederick Bennett of Te Arawa (centre), is seen here speaking at the tangi in 1950 of another great cultural go-between, Sir Apirana Ngata. A distinguished orator in both English and Māori, Bennett was consecrated Bishop of Aotearoa in 1928.
