An offering is collected at the Pacific Islanders' Church in Māngere, Auckland, in 1981. Offerings provided funds for new buildings and a minister's salary or stipend. Whereas in New Zealand-based churches ministers' salaries were determined by the parent church, salaries in Pacific-based churches were decided by the size of the congregation. The larger the congregation the higher the salary, so some ministers became relatively wealthy.
