Kaumātua

Ngāti Porou kaumātua Hone Taumaunu is pictured here discussing tribal affairs in 2008. In the 21st century few Māori were over 65, but their proportion of the Māori and total population was expected to increase. In 2013 Māori life expectancy was seven years less than non-Māori.
