Me Poti Ae worked to end violence against Māori children, and urged people to vote ‘yes’ in the referendum on whether a smack as part of 'good parental correction' should be a criminal offence. In late July 2009 the Reverend Hone Kaa joined with a group of Māori members of Parliament outside the Beehive to promote voting ‘yes’ in the referendum.
