Blacksmith and forge

Horses were still widely used for transport and pulling power around 1908 when this photograph was taken of  a blacksmith's workshop, probably in Stratford, Taranaki. The two men on the right are fitting iron horseshoes to draught horses. The forges on the left were used to make these shoes and many other small iron tools and objects.
