The love contract

The love contract

Margaret Sutherland’s The love contract (1976) is a satirical exploration of 1970s suburban life. Newly married couple Kate and Rex Goodman move into the sparkling new suburb of Comfrey. The initial excitement soon wanes as the couple deal with the birth of their three children, the loss of their religious faith and its replacement with materialism, and Kate’s suburban neurosis. Her feeling of unfulfillment leads to an extramarital affair, causing the couple to re-evaluate their feelings for each other.
