Westland Milk Products was one of only two dairy companies that did not join the Fonterra Co-operative Group when it was formed in 2001. Here, one of its tankers collects milk from a farm holding tank to be made into milk powder and a range of specialist milk products at the company’s Hokitika factory. Tatua Co-operative Dairy Company, in Morrinsville, was the other company that did not join Fonterra.
