Crossing the Tasman

Crossing the Tasman

Charles Kingsford Smith is helped from the cockpit of his aeroplane, the Southern Cross, at Wigram Airport, Christchurch, in September 1928, after he and his crew had made the first successful air crossing of the Tasman Sea. The development of an air link to Australia heralded the age of international air travel for New Zealanders.
