Wairoa town is split in two by the river of the same name, which curves down from the mountain ranges in the north and flows into Hawke Bay. The bridge in the foreground connects the two parts of the town. The southern part (right) is mainly residential and contains the main shopping streets, which are next to the river. The northern part (left) is industrial with some housing.
