Kōrero: South Pacific economic relations

Many South Pacific people living in New Zealand regularly send money (remittances) to their relatives living back in the islands. At Christmas 1991 the Talamaivao family sent all their available money as remittances to Samoa, leaving them with a bare Christmas tree in their own home. Ameto Talamaivoa (standing at left) holds his son Ameto, and in front of the tree are (from left) Sa, twins Vaeoso and Vaelaa, Amsy and their mother, Vaipalolo.
