Beachfront properties in the coastal township of Haumoana, and in nearby Te Awanga and Clifton, are affected by coastal erosion and sea swells. The Hawke’s Bay Regional Council estimates that the average annual loss of beach material between Clifton and the Tukituki River mouth is 10–12 car trailer loads per metre of beach. This property was badly damaged by heavy sea swells in March 2005.
