Ewe fair, Waipukurau, 1969

Ewe fair, Waipukurau, 1969

Sheep farming has been a crucial part of the Hawke’s Bay pastoral economy since European settlement in the mid-19th century. More than 62,000 sheep were up for sale at this ewe fair in Waipukurau in 1969. At the time, this event was believed to have been the largest single yarding of sheep for sale in New Zealand history.
