The Pōrangahau estuary on Hawke’s Bay’s southern coast is the largest and least-disturbed estuarine environment on the east coast south of Bay of Plenty. Migratory wading birds settle there during the winter months. A wide variety of plants grow in the estuarine and terrestrial (land) margins of the waterway.
