‘Scrip Corner’, Thames

In the early 1870s there was a share boom at Thames because of the gold mines close by. The brokers would meet on the corner of Albert and Brown streets, shown here. ‘Scrip Corner’, where the brokers called out the share prices, is the verandahed building on the right.
