Homer Tunnel

Homer Tunnel

The Homer Tunnel, over a kilometre in length, made possible a route from Te Anau to Milford Sound, and has been very important to the tourist industry. The tunnel took 19 years to complete, from 1935 to 1954. Construction was made difficult by dangerous snowy conditions, evident in this photo.
