The new Hāpuawhenua viaduct

In 1987 the old Hāpuawhenua viaduct was replaced by an elegant new one, built of pre-stressed concrete. The new viaduct was longer than its predecessor, at 414 metres. Richard Prebble, minister of transport, stands on the structure on the day of its official opening.
