Warehouse dispute

Warehouse dispute

Warehousing is a critical – and often overlooked – part of goods distribution. In 2006, a lockout of 500 warehouse workers employed by supermarket giant Progressive Enterprises drew public attention to warehousing. Progressive’s warehouses were open seven days a week, receiving and sending goods to 165 supermarkets and food stores. The dispute over pay rates took nearly a month to resolve, during which mini-distribution centres were set up in supermarket car parks, and shoppers found gaps on the shelves.
