The Thomas Ritchie in this photo was from Ireland, came to New Zealand via Australia. He was a school teacher, principal and a School Inspector. Two children, including his only son died in Australia, however he had 4 other daughters. One married and had 2 sons but her husband died in Belgium at the end of World War 1. His grandson became a well known Sports Medicine doctor, Thomas Ritchie Anderson. His only other grandson died from tetanus aged 16 years.
