On the eve of Christmas 2009 one New Zealand dollar bought just fewer than 48 Euro cents and 69 US cents, and just over 79 Australian cents. Since 1985, when it was decided to allow the market to set the price of the currency, rates have changed hour by hour, the product of tens of thousands of individual transactions.
