Banks advertise interest rates to attract two kinds of custom: those with savings who will seek high interest rates, and those who want to borrow, who seek low rates. In this December 2009 advertisement ANZ New Zealand seeks to attract house buyers with a 5.69% interest rate on home loans. At that time, $5000 on a twelve-month term deposit with ANZ New Zealand earned 5.00%.
