Prime Minister Bill Rowling and his wife Glen attend the final Labour Party campaign meeting in the Wellington town hall on 28 November 1975, the night before the election. During the 1975 general election supporters staged a ‘Citizens for Rowling’ campaign, which enlisted high-profile New Zealanders’ support for Rowling’s low-key consultative approach, in contrast to the abrasive manner of National Party leader Robert Muldoon. However, the election was a landslide victory for National.
