Trades Hall and ‘Union Yes’ sign

Trades Hall and ‘Union Yes’ sign

Union membership suffered a serious blow when the Employment Contracts Act 1991 encouraged individual contracts between a single employee and employer. The union movement campaigned to encourage workers to join or remain members of trade unions. This banner hangs from the Wellington Trades Hall, the headquarters for several Wellington unions, and the site of a fatal bomb attack in 1984.
