Kōrero: Engineering

By the late 19th century manufacturing engineering workshops were found throughout New Zealand. The government railway workshops were among the largest, but private-sector businesses also flourished. Many began life as mixed blacksmithing and engineering businesses. The Napier workshop of James J. Niven and Company made and repaired car and truck parts, machinery for freezing works and water supply, and railway locomotives.
