In 1910 kerosene was still the greatest source of domestic lighting, and kerosene lamps were often elaborate and decorative items. Use of kerosene lighting continued in some isolated areas into the mid-20th century. The brand name of these lamps on display is Welsbach. Carl Auer von Welsbach invented the incandescent mantle which increased the amount of light these lamps produced.
