Kōrero: Taxis and cabs

Smartly dressed hansom cab drivers wait for customers in Wellington’s main shopping street, Lambton Quay, in 1910. There were several cab ranks around the city where cabs lined up. ‘Cabbies haunted such areas as Lambton and Te Aro railway stations and you could hear their shrill cries of “Ceb, Sir!” with a waving of their whips,’ recalled Pat Lawlor in his book Old Wellington days.
