Hōri Kīngi Te Ānaua (left), John White (centre), and Te Ua Haumēne (right), 1860s

Between October 1862 and April 1865 John White was resident magistrate for the Wanganui region; during this time he was in contact with Te Ua Haumēne, who lived for a time at Pakaraka, and Hōri Kīngi Te Ānaua, a Wanganui leader and government official.
