Students can train in horticulture at hundreds of workplaces and polytechnics throughout the country. Here, a lecturer and students at Northtec harvest salad greens. A problem for growers is that labour requirements are seasonal. Often labour is only needed at harvest time for short periods, and it can be difficult to get workers in New Zealand. Some crop growers are reliant on imported labour at harvest time.
