Tulip bulbs are one of the major horticultural crops of Southland and South Otago. The region's long summer days and cool nights are well suited to the production of high-value bulb crops like tulips, daffodils and lilies. Most of the bulb growers have links with bulb-growing companies in the Netherlands and export their bulbs to the Netherlands and other European destinations. This tulip field near Balclutha, belonging to grower Raymond Conijn, is shown in 1999.
