Women ‘help the Mother Country’

Photographed in 1939, this New Zealand woman weaves clothes to be sent to people in Britain, beneath a notice encouraging help for ‘the mother country’. The war confirmed the domestic virtues of New Zealand women and their sense of loyalty to the old country.
