White butterflies are a common pest in the vegetable garden, and are often found in groups where brassicas such as cabbage are being grown. The adult (left) lays eggs on the underside of the leaves. These develop into caterpillars (right), which feed on the plant – sometimes until the leaves have been completely stripped. Later the caterpillars pupate and then develop into adults.
