Menagerie

Menagerie

This is Day’s Menagerie, at the St Giles Fair in Oxford, England, in 1895. These travelling shows featuring exotic animals were very popular with the British public in the mid- to late 1800s. It is easy to see why acclimatisation societies appeared in Britain and British colonies at this time.
