Artificial insemination

Alex Macmillan is a Northland beef farmer with 50 years’ experience as an artificial insemination technician. Here he puts his hand in the cow’s rectum so he can feel her uterus, while holding a plastic pipette of semen in his mouth. He will manipulate the pipette through the cow’s reproductive tract, to deposit semen at the front of the cervix.
