A group of intending immigrants to New Zealand known as the 'Clarionettes'

William Ranstead (seated in middle row, directly in front of the standing moustachioed man in a bowler hat) organised the emigration to New Zealand of a group of working class settlers. They were known as the 'Clarionettes' after the Clarion, a socialist newspaper of which Ranstead was a director.
