Boysenberry flowers are similar to those of blackberry, and appear in November and December. The ripe fruit are about 3 centimetres long, succulent and dark purple in colour. They are picked in December and January. Boysenberries are too soft for the fresh fruit to be marketed effectively. Instead they are packed and frozen in blocks, individually quick-frozen, or made into concentrate for jams or desserts.
