Grafton Bridge

Grafton Bridge

A crowd parades along Grafton Bridge, possibly during its opening in 1910. Built of reinforced concrete, the bridge had one of the largest spans in the world at that time. There were fears that it might collapse when the scaffolding was removed, but two steamrollers were taken over the bridge without incident. It remains one of New Zealand’s most elegant structures.
