
In ultrasound scanning, a probe is held against the side of a pregnant hind and the reflection of the sound waves gives a picture of the foetus within the uterus. This can be used to assess the number and stage of growth of fawns. Here Professor Peter Wilson of Massey University’s veterinary and animal biology department introduces students to the technique.
