Kōrero: Coarse fish

Perch are quite easy to catch, making them popular when introducing children to fishing. Although coarse fishers also target perch, most freshwater anglers prefer to fish for trout and salmon. Perch were introduced to New Zealand in the late 1860s and early 1870s.
