These people are electric fishing along the edge of the Manawatū River. Electric fishing is a way to find out what fish species are in the water. An electric current is passed through the partially submerged rods at the front of the boat. The current temporarily stuns the fish, which float to the surface. They are scooped up in nets and identified.
